Global Cycling Network to launch in German

Channel will feature race footage, weekly magazine show

The Play Sports Group (PSG) has announced a German-language version of the Global Cycling Network (GCN).

GCN auf Deutsch joins the existing English (launched in 2013), Spanish (2018), Italian (2018) and Japanese (2019) channels.

Fronted by retired cyclists Björn Thurau and Mario Vogt, it will featuring race footage, access to riders and teams, tech insights and a weekly magazine show.

GCN content can be accessed via smartphone, computer, tablet or TV. PSG’s channels have reached two billion views on YouTube, and serve 20 million monthly viewers.

The announcement follows the acquisition of a majority stake in PSG by Discovery, the owner of Eurosport.

PSG founder and CEO Simon Wear said: “We’ve been planning a German-language GCN channel for a long time. It’s a hugely important market with great cyclists, cycling fans, some brilliant brands and events.

“The German-speaking audience is already highly engaged with GCN, so we’re very much looking forward to providing bespoke new and unique videos in the German language and welcoming new viewers to our channel.”
