Grass Valley has revealed details of a collaboration with France Télévisions, with the first phase of the broadcaster’s Genesys production infrastructure renewal programme completed.
The project aims to facilitate continuous news channel Franceinfo’s transition from an SDI production environment to SMPTE ST 2110, with core technology relocated to a data centre more than 30 km from its operations centre. Based around Grass Valley’s K-Frame and Kaleido-IP technology, the new production and monitoring environment features an 80×40 K-Frame system and Kayenne control surface alongside four Kaleido-IP X440 multiviewers.
Grégory Vital, director of process engineering and support at France Télévisions, said, “We are taking decisive steps in modernising our production infrastructure while maintaining the continuity of services that France Télévisions depends on. For Franceinfo, that means a new SMPTE ST 2110 control room in the data centre as part of the infrastructure we are building to support our content in the years ahead.”
Migrating from Grass Valley Kahuna switching and Kaleido-X multiviewing, the new system provides an IP-native architecture while maintaining familiarity, aiming to ensure continuity for operators. Signal processing is provided by K-Frame’s UltraMatch functionality while Kaleido-IP uses the same configuration tools familiar to France Télévisions’ existing Kaleido-X teams, said the company.
Red Bee Media France acted as systems integrator, enabling the new control room to be ready for its August 31st launch, aligning with the 10th anniversary of Franceinfo’s launch. The new infrastructure is UHD and HDR ready, building a foundation for the next phase of the Genesys programme.
Commenting, Carlos Ferreira, VP of sales Central and Southern Europe at Grass Valley, said, “Grass Valley has a long history in France, including a longstanding relationship with France Télévisions, and the Genesys project represents an important new milestone. For Franceinfo, K-Frame and Kaleido-IP provide the production and monitoring capabilities required within its new SMPTE ST 2110 environment, while maintaining continuity for teams already familiar with Grass Valley technology. The project also provides a strong foundation as France Télévisions progresses its wider infrastructure renewal.”
