With stereo 3D understandably going to be one of the main themes at IBC2010 this year, Monday has been designated Stereo 3D Day, with a range of sessions – many occurring in the RAI Auditorium and up on the IBC Big Screen – devoted to the topic.
In fact, so widespread is the topic this year that it hasn’t even been able to restrict itself to a single day, and it’s on Sunday morning that things really get started with the excellent free What Caught My Eye session: ‘What’s new in 3D’. As per usual with the WCME sessions, an expert summarises all the new products on the showfloor for you, saving significant amounts of time and shoe leather in the process. This time round it’s Adam Sculthorp, a stereographer working for UK OB specialists (and 3D pioneeers) Telegenic. It should be unmissable, as is the session ‘A comprehensive introduction to stereoscopic 3D’ just after it, which promises to be an invaluable 101-style primer for delegates new to the technology, techniques and tools involved in the whole process.
Monday proper kicks off with a keynote delivered by Steve Schklair, CEO of 3Ality Digital in the session ‘Capturing stereoscopic images for live broadcast’, which will look at the challenges inherent in shooting live 3D. Other sessions cover the entire 3D workflow from capturing stereo 3D images to delivering and presenting stereoscopic content.
