My IBC: Félix Poulin, director global collaborations, Innovation Hub, CBC/Radio Canada

Felix explains why IBC Show is a pivotal event in the calendar, enabling the industry to directly address strategic questions, while actively stimulating collaboration on innovation initiatives

How long have you been going to IBC?

I have been going to IBC for the last 16 years, minus a couple, both as an exhibitor when I was with the EBU and now as a customer and innovation leader with CBC/Radio-Canada.

What’s your typical IBC routine: what are you there to see/learn, who are you there to meet?

Each year, I define a few top objectives for the show to maintain focus. I schedule fixed appointments with key suppliers and partners, strategically planning them by area to minimise walking. I also maintain a prioritised watch list by hall to fill any gaps in my schedule. Between breakfast, lunch, and dinner meetings, the pace is always intense. This year, my focus is on Dynamic Media Facility (DMF) and the Media eXchange Layer (MXL), with supporting demos, giving presentations and JT-DMF Ask Me Anything on the EBU Booth (10.D21).

Why is IBC important to you in a professional capacity, and how does the show compare to others on the calendar?

IBC is a pivotal event in our calendar. It allows us to directly address strategic questions with vendors and partners, while actively stimulating collaboration on innovation initiatives. Plus, Amsterdam is a fantastic backdrop for this busy long weekend.

What’s your top tip for anyone attending IBC for the first time?

My advice is to focus on what matters most so you don’t get lost in the noise, but do keep some flexibility to wander the halls and see what catches your eye. Oh, and definitely rent a bicycle to get around downtown!
