What will you be speaking about at IBC2026?
I’ll be taking part in two sessions looking at some of the issues the media industry needs to address right now. The first takes a broader view of industry priorities, including cybersecurity, responsible AI, sustainability and talent.
The second focuses specifically on security preparedness. We’ll be looking at what recent incidents are telling us, why the same vulnerabilities continue to appear, and the gap that can exist between being aware of a risk and actually being prepared for it. It’s also an opportunity to introduce TPN’s Fix It or Risk It campaign, which is about turning what we are learning from security incidents into practical actions that organisations can take now.
What do you hope the audience takes away from your session?
I want people to leave feeling that improving security is achievable. Cybersecurity can sometimes feel like an enormous, highly technical challenge, but many incidents begin with relatively ordinary vulnerabilities and behaviours.
The question isn’t whether another attack will happen. The question is: will your organisation be ready?
Fix It or Risk It is about helping organisations recognise those everyday moments of risk and address them before they become something bigger. If people leave the session thinking about one or two practical things they can fix within their own organisation, that would be a very positive outcome.
What do you view as the key technologies defining the industry at the moment?
AI is clearly one of the most significant forces shaping the industry, alongside the continued move towards cloud, IP and increasingly software-defined and distributed workflows. All of these technologies can create tremendous opportunities for greater efficiency, flexibility and creativity.
But as our technology environments become more connected and complex, resilience and security need to develop alongside them. For me, the important conversation isn’t simply about which technology comes next. It’s about how we adopt new technologies responsibly, understand the risks they introduce, and build security into the way they’re used from the outset.
Why is IBC an important date in the media tech calendar?
IBC brings together an unusually broad cross-section of the global media and entertainment community. You have technology providers, content owners, broadcasters, platforms and industry organisations all in the same place, which makes it an important opportunity to compare experiences and understand where the industry is heading.
That kind of collaboration is particularly important for cybersecurity because no organisation operates in isolation. We are part of a highly interconnected global supply chain, so improving resilience depends on sharing what we’re learning and helping one another adopt better practices. IBC provides a valuable forum for those conversations.
Other than your own session, which panels are you looking forward to?
There is a lot in the programme around AI, cloud and resilience that I’m interested in. Sovereign AI and Sovereign Cloud in Media stands out because questions around control, dependency and resilience are becoming increasingly important as media organisations adopt more cloud and AI technologies.
I’m also interested in From Talent Discovery to Development: How Allyship Builds the Future Workforce. Technology is changing very quickly, but our ability to respond to that change ultimately depends on people, skills and strong industry collaboration. That broader discussion about what a resilient, future-ready media industry looks like is an important one.
