A monthly round-up of appointments and movements in the broadcast industry.

A+E Networks UK has appointed BBC News and Radio HR director Karl Burnett, to VP, human resources. Beginning July 2015, Burnett will be based in London, managing human resources across all of A+E Networks UK’s territories, including offices in Poland, Denmark and South Africa. The business currently employs over 160 staff.

Marissa Stone (pictured) has joined Argosy Console as CAD design specialist. In her new role, Stone will be working on the design and development of new and existing products, as well as custom individual designs for corporate and high-end clients.

Artel Video Systems has announced the appointment of Mike Rizzo as president and CEO. Rizzo joins Artel with more than 20 years in executive management positions. Prior to joining Artel, Rizzo provided strategic consulting for small to mid-sized businesses and private equity firms focusing on CEO support, leadership succession, M&A advisory, corporate strategic planning, international expansion, and ESOP transition.

Nicole Love-Lloyd (pictured) has joined Bubble & Squeak as a strategic PR consultant. Love-Lloyd brings with her over 10 years of PR experience from working at Ogilvy and Halpern to becoming director of PR technology and digital lifestyle agency, Marlin.

Cisco’s board of directors has appointed Chuck Robbins as CEO effective 26 July. Robbins was also elected to the board of directors of Cisco, effective 1 May. John Chambers will assume the role of executive chairman and will continue to serve as the chairman of Cisco’s board. “This is the perfect time for Chuck Robbins to become Cisco’s next chief executive officer. We’ve selected a very strong leader at a time when Cisco is in a very strong position,” said Chambers.

NexGuard, a Civolution company, has strengthened its NexGuard management team through the appointment of pay-TV industry expert Jean-Philippe Plantevin as SVP, products and solutions. Prior to joining NexGuard, Plantevin held senior management positions at DiviCom/Harmonic, Nagravision (a Kudelski company) and SagemCom.

JLL has announced that Benoît du Passage (pictured) will be taking an expanded regional leadership role, with Charles Boudet succeeding him as managing director for France. du Passage will become CEO for southern Europe and the Maghreb, with overall regional board responsibility for JLL’s operations across France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Morocco and neighbouring countries in north-west Africa.

Lectrosonics longtime company president Larry Fisher retires today, at the same time as Gordon Moore is promoted to president and Karl Winkler to vice president sales/service. Fisher has been with the company for 43 years and will remain active with Lectrosonics as chairman of the board of directors, as well as maintaining his presence on industry-related social media sites where he has become known as a valuable contributor.

Masstech Group is expanding its sales team with newly-created positions in three key international regions. Based in India, Paresh Upadhyay has been named regional manager, sales and projects for south and west Asia. John Nash takes on sales and projects for the Asia-Pacific region, while Marius Bozdog does the same for EMEA.

Piksel has hired Jay Gravina as executive vice president commercial, Americas. Kevin Joyce, chief commercial officer, Piksel commented: “Jay’s solid reputation across the broadcast industry, and his prior professional experience at Encompass, Miranda, Avid and Sony, gives us every confidence that Jay will play a crucial role in Piksel’s development; helping our customers across the Americas to master the delivery of online video and liberate their content.”

Tim Felstead has joined Quantel and Snell as head of product marketing. Felstead has worked in the broadcast industry since 1991 in senior technical, sales and leadership roles with a number of organisations, including Thomson, Grass Valley and Harris.

UK indie producer Red Planet Pictures is launching a non-scripted division and has appointed Simon Raikes at the helm. The company’s new division will develop a range of non-scripted programming, initially concentrating in factual and factual entertainment formats. Raikes will be charged with developing new ideas and growing the company within the non-scripted genre both in the UK and internationally when he takes up his new post in the summer.

Trickbox TV, the video production and broadcast services provider, has appointed Stephen Gould (pictured) to the role of broadcast engineer, as the company continues to grow in its fifth birthday year. Gould joins Trickbox TV from Visual Impact and brings with him 20 years of broadcast engineering experience, plus a background in broadcast equipment maintenance and hire.

Said Ouissal has been named the new head of Violin Memory’s worldwide field operations. Since joining the company in early 2014, Ouissal had been Violin’s senior vice president of product management and strategy, and managed its worldwide team of system engineers.

Visual Data Media Services has announced the appointment of Polly Magner (pictured) to head of client services. “It’s an exciting time to be at Visual Data and we’re incredibly proud to have Polly join the team,” said Symon Roue, managing director of Visual Data.

With the departure of Wise Buddah creative MD Dave Holt this summer, company founder Mark Goodier has announced he is to assume the role of group CEO and head the next phase of the company’s development.

OTT and TV Everywhere services provider Xstream has hired former Ericsson executive, Michael Rasmussen, as chief financial officer. Rasmussen served for more than 14 years at Ericsson with various executive positions including, VP finance and CFO and CFO major accounts.
