Stranger Things strikes back against The Mandalorian

Parrot Analytics puts the Star Wars show in third place

Netflix drew first blood in the streaming wars last week as Stranger Things received more downloads in the United States (101.6 million demand expressions) than Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian (39.9 million).

Parrot Analytics’ measurement of streams, downloads, likes and comments put the high-profile Star Wars show in third place, behind the third season of Stranger Things and DC’s Titans (57 million).

The Mandalorian had the year’s best digital TV series debut in the US, beating Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, as well as Amazon Prime Video’s Good Omens.

Disney Plus racked up 10 million subscribers on the day of its launch in the US and Netherlands, while The Mandalorian was also pirated within hours of the platform’s launch.

Parrot said: “Given Disney Plus’ episodic release strategy, we expect demand for The Mandalorian to continue to grow further as new episodes become available to stream over the next several weeks.”
