Poland’s TVP Info taken off air by government

TVP Info been accused of being an outlet for Poland's previous government

Polish news channel TVP Info appears to have been taken off air by the country’s new government.

According to Reuters, the Polish parliament on Tuesday passed a resolution calling on “all state authorities to immediately take action aimed at restoring constitutional order in terms of citizens’ access to reliable information and the functioning of public media”.

This led to the dismissal of the management of Polish public television, radio and news agency PAP, added the report.

TVP Info was the first channel to be taken off air, following criticism it had become an outlet for Poland’s previous government, led by the Law and Justice (PiS) party.

The BBC reports PiS party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski joined a protest at TVP headquarters in Warsaw prior to TVP Info’s signal being cut.
