The Royal Television Society has announced Theresa Wise is to retire as chief executive.
Wise has spent more than ten year’s at the helm of the RTS, running the charity through a period that has seen rapid change throughout the media and entertainment industry.
Commenting on the announcement, Wise said, “After almost 13 unforgettable years as CEO of the Royal Television Society, I have made the decision to retire from full time work.
“The RTS is a unique and vital part of the UK’s world-leading television and streaming media landscape and I’m immensely proud of what we have achieved over the past few years. Our educational programmes are stronger than ever, our members are very engaged, our events programme continues to set the gold standard across the industry, the national and regional centres are thriving and the team at the RTS is world class.
“None of this would have been possible without the support of so many people. My heartfelt thanks go to the Board of Trustees, our generous patrons, our members, colleagues across the industry, and of course, the incredibly dedicated and hardworking team at HQ and throughout the country. You have all made this journey such a joy.
“As the RTS approaches its centenary in 2027, I’m excited to see it move into the next chapter of its remarkable journey under new leadership.”
Jane Turton, chair of the Royal Television Society, said: “Theresa has made a huge and lasting contribution to the RTS. Her dynamism, passion, and commitment have been amazing. It has been a pleasure working with her as she has grown and developed the Society, launching new initiatives like the Mini MBA, strengthening the Bursary Scheme and constantly innovating and delivering the highest quality across all of the RTS activities. On behalf of the Board and everyone at the RTS, I would like to thank Theresa for a brilliant contribution to the Society.”
Wise will step down from the role next year. The RTS has begun the process of appointing a new chief executive.
