Meet the… senior sales director

Ateliere Creative Technologies' Rosa Pereiro explains how a passion for communication sciences and finding out how electrons can carry voice, data and video from one corner of the world, led her to the media technology industry

Rosa Pereiro, senior sales director – EMEA, Ateliere Creative Technologies
Talk us through an average day in your role

My role is very diverse, as I am involved in a variety of cross-functional initiatives both internally in Ateliere and externally with our partners and customers. I must be constantly updated on the latest technology trends, by learning and being in touch with other industry peers, which is the part I enjoy the most while enabling me to perform a better job.

How did you get started in the media industry?

I have always been passionate about communication sciences and how these subatomic particles, called electrons, can carry voice, data and video from one corner of the world to another with low latency and in an orderly manner. That is why I started my professional life in the aerospace industry with satellites, then back to the ground with antennas and optical fibre transmissions, and now I am on the creative side taking care of the content before reaching the distribution network.

What training did you have before entering the industry?

I have a double Master of Science in Telecommunications and in Information Technology. My university background is deep into radiocommunications, satellites and antennas and I learnt everything about video processing, mastering, workflow orchestration, UX/UI, OTT media distribution through my professional experiences. I am a firm believer that life is a learning journey and I keep on upgrading myself, especially in such an innovative space as the digital media industry. Technologies and the internet especially have made such a substantial amount of information available to everyone and I am taking advantage of it almost every day.

Why do you enjoy working in the industry?

I love working for a company where innovation and customer-centricity are both core values in the digital media industry, getting involved with new and emerging technologies while surrounded by creative and passionate peers.

I get to know many different types of people, with different kinds of experiences, challenges, and projects, and I really like that diversity. It makes my brain very active! Moreover, I have found people in this industry to be incredibly creative, talented, and easy-going. I have forged great relationships both on the professional and personal levels.

What piece of advice would you offer someone looking to explore a role similar to yours?

Be open to exploring new opportunities, do not be afraid to have a career turn because you inevitably build a broader skill set with an increasing number of projects and roles you undertake. Always look at the possibilities, not the limitations, and in any case, there will always be something you can contribute to from your background in another industry, with new ideas or processes that could bring value.

Whatever you do, do it with passion instead of out of duty. When you’re passionate about something you enjoy the journey more, and you will build an inner resilience for the obstacles you may find on your way.
