Reports suggest BBC Three is at risk of closure in a round of cuts set to be announced next week.
According to Deadline, the BBC is preparing to announce the closure of TV and radio services as the broadcaster continues its efforts to make £500 million in savings.
Director-general Matt Brittin is said to be planning the cuts while also futureproofing the organisation.
The report suggests BBC and industry insiders are speculating that BBC Three is “vulnerable”, while there has also been speculation about the future of BBC Scotland.
The linear version of BBC Three was originally closed in February 2016, with content moving to BBC iPlayer.
It was resurrected as a stand-alone channel by Tim Davie in 2022. The BBC recently dropped RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, one of the channel’s flagship programmes, citing “very difficult choices” in the face of “significant financial pressures”.
