EBU director appointed chair of World Broadcasting Unions Technical Committee

Simon Fell will serve a two-year term

Simon Fell, director of the European Broadcasting Union Technology and Innovation Department, has been elected chair the World Broadcasting Unions (WBU) Technical Committee.

He will serve a two-year term in the role (2017/18).

Fell will be joined by Amal Punchihewa, Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union technical director, and John Lee, chairman of the North American Broadcasting Association Technical Committee, who will both serve as vice-chairs.

The WBU is made up of eight broadcast unions, including the EBU.

Speaking of his appointment, Fell said: “The world’s broadcasters face many common challenges, which include protecting broadcasters and their customers from IT security threats, understanding the impact of 5G on broadcasting, investigating whether there can be common file formats for programmes, and much more. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues across the world to the benefit of us all.”
