BBC seeks new broadcasting licences in case of no-deal Brexit

Said to be in talks with Irish and Dutch authorities

The BBC is seeking licences to continue broadcasting across the EU in the event of a no-deal Brexit, Bloomberg reports.

The broadcaster is in talks with Irish and Dutch authorities as its current licences would no longer be valid without a deal in place.

David Justin, president of Amsterdam-based media advisory firm One Six International, said: “The BBC have a big problem. If it’s a hard Brexit, they would face a blackout in some countries.”

A BBC spokesman said the organisation will keep the situation “under close review to ensure that we can continue to best serve our audiences in any changed regulatory environment.”
