The BBC is launching a new discovery app ahead of a summer of sport.

The announcement, which was made in the corporation’s latest progress report, has outlined plans to move forward with more advanced content personalisation plans.

The app is designed to aid viewers in discovering collections of content from across the BBC, and will be released ahead of Euro 2016 in France and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

“We’ll be making these events more personal to you, so you’ll never miss the latest gold from Team GB or goal alert from your favourite team at the Euros,” the report said.

It also claimed that, in the past 12 months, 1.6 billion BBC programmes have been recommended to viewers and listeners, based on previous interactions.

The BBC Sport app sent out 1.4 billion personalised alerts, with 1.7 million people personalising the myNews section on the BBC News app.

The corporation will also be rolling out a new BBC Identity system that is designed to be “more robust and even more secure” than the current one, offering personalised experiences on all devices.
