Kaltura, a growth-stage company backed by prominent investors including Intel Capital, has opened its European HQ in London and has already hired 15 staff.

Among the new appointments is former VP Strategy, Leah Belsky, who becomes European general manager. The company is significantly increasing its European operations in order to meet rising demand for Kaltura’s technology among media companies, universities and enterprises in the region.

Kaltura’s European customers already include leading organizations such as AstraZeneca, SAP, AkzoNobel, Nestle, Groovy Gecko, PinkTV, Glam Media, Durham University, Copenhagen Business School, Danish State University and Library, and Siemens; in addition, two leading European broadcasters are currently implementing the Kaltura platform.

“We are extremely excited to bring the promise of open source video to Europe full-force,” said Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura Chairman & CEO. “Online video is rapidly transforming the way people work, learn and entertain; it has become an integral part of any organisation’s activities, and a key tool for communication and engaging one’s audience. Unlike other proprietary and closed solutions, Kaltura’s open and flexible platform enables customers to deploy out-of-the-box products and to easily and affordably customise them to fit their specific needs and workflows and integrate them with other enterprise systems.”

Kaltura’s European headquarters are based in London. “Kaltura started exploring the UK market a year ago with a few sales consultants. Given the rapid growth and potential we saw with the UK broadcasters, universities and enterprises, we recently decided to invest heavily in Europe, opening a new London headquarters right next to Tech City, with a full operational and sales team,” said Leah Belsky, vice president & general manager Europe, Middle East and Africa. “European organisations are rapidly seeing that with Kaltura’s open source approach they get the flexibility to create custom solutions that weren’t previously possible.”

Kaltura offers a robust video platform and applications for media companies, educational institutions and enterprises, supporting video management publishing, transcoding, metadata processing, monetisation, analytics and more. Kaltura applications include a robust media management application, an out of the box YouTube-like portal (Kaltura MediaSpace), as well as integrations with SharePoint, Blackboard, Moodle, Sakai, Drupal and more.
