UK set for seventh culture secretary in five years

Both Penny Mordaunt and Kemi Badenoch have been linked to the role following Nadine Dorries' resignation

The UK’s new prime minister Liz Truss will appoint a new culture secretary following Nadine Dorries’ decision to step down from the role.

There had been reports Dorries would remain in place as part of Truss’s new government, but it’s believed she has now decided to step down and will likely receive a peerage as part fo Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list.

Dorries has been in the role since September 2021, and has been at the forefront of the Conservative’s push to privatise Channel 4.

Since being renamed as the  Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in 2017, there have been six secretary’s of state: Karen Bradley, Matt Hancock, Jeremy Wright, Nicky Morgan, Oliver Dowden, and Dorries.

Both Penny Mordaunt and Kemi Badenoch have been linked to the role following Dorries’ resignation.
