SilverScape brings virtual production to Manchester

The company aims to provide services enabling productions to cut carbon output by more than 70 per cent

SilverScape is launching virtual production services in Manchester, as it aims to enable production companies, TV and filmmakers and others to create immersive environments in the studio, eliminating the need for on-location shoots and “significantly reducing” carbon footprints.

SilverScape said its capabilities can cut carbon output by more than 70 per cent.

he company’s technology stack will include a 14m x 4m LED wall, disguise media servers, Mo-Sys camera tracking, MBS lighting provision and processing from Brompton.

In a series of demonstrations taking place on February 27 in collaboration with FrameSync, SilverScape aims to deliver interactive sessions demystifying virtual production and exploring its benefits for film, TV and commercial applications.

Co-founder and executive chairman, Ian Armstrong, said, “Virtual Production offers tremendous potential for content creators all over the world in a fascinating blend of the physical and the digital in our productions.”

Simon Binns, co-founder and CEO added, “We’ll be working closely with producers and agencies to understand the creative requirements, assess the feasibility and cost requirements, and provide guidance throughout every step of the process until the work is on air. AI tools will help to streamline and support the creative workflow but will not replace human creativity. The idea and script, performance and direction on set, and decision making on the final edit will remain entirely human.”
