VIDEO: Quicklink Midi Backpack used to demo H.265/HEVC with Parrot Drone

The Quicklink HEVC Midi Backpack has been used to demonstrate H.265/HEVC aerial footage with the Parrot Bebop drone at the Paris Air Show in France.

The Quicklink HEVC Midi Backpack has been used to demonstrate H.265/HEVC aerial footage with the Parrot Bebop drone at the Paris Air Show in France.

The 51st show took place at the Le Bourget Parc des Expositions from 15 to 21 June 2015.

The video was encoded with the H.265/HEVC Midi Backpack, transmitted via the Inmarsat BGAN HDR service. The video and audio output was then decoded by the Quicklink standard playout server solution.

This demonstration showed how high quality footage that can be transmitted in aerial situations.

“Our 400 grams Bebop drone embedding a digitally stabilised HD camera was showing amazing live footage during this air show. This was made possible thanks to the efficient Quicklink HEVC encoding/decoding solution, key technology to keep high quality video while using such low bitrate connection,” said Yannick Levy, VP corporate business development at Parrot.

Founded in 1994 and headquartered in Paris, Parrot creates, develops and markets technology wireless products for consumers and professionals. Quicklink offers broadcast solutions in the fields of news, sport, entertainment and corporate media and provides over 400 TV stations with software and hardware IP solutions for the transmission of live and edited video.

Parrot’s Yannick Levy explains how the Bebop camera drone – when used with Inmarsat’s BGAN and BGAN HDR services – can deliver a live video solution to market that can be used anywhere:
