tpc’s UHD1 OB truck wins EBU award

Recognises technology contributions that "make a difference and create value"

The EBU has awarded its Technology & Innovation Award to tpc’s all-IP UHD OB vehicle, the first of its kind in Europe.

Now in its fourth year, the award recognises technology contributions that “make a difference and create value” in broadcasting, and was presented to tpc CEO Detlef Sold at the EBU Technical Assembly in Cavtat, Croatia.

Designed to use equipment that complies to open standards like SMPTE ST 2110, the OB truck (UHD1) has allowed tpc and its clients to put IP-based production to the test.

Capable of working with up to 24 cameras, UHD1 is flexible in terms of the signal formats, workflows and production setups required for different productions, including skiing, ice hockey, football, concerts and other entertainment.

“We have built an IP lab to help us answer the many questions that come with moving to an all-IP environment, but going on air with a full-IP truck has been much more useful,” said Sold.

“What we have learned from the engineering and architecture design of UHD1 is being transferred to the design of our new technology centre in Zurich,” he added.
