The QYou unveils app for curated web content

The QYou, a media network showcasing curated internet video content, is now available on mobile thanks to a new app launched today. TVBEurope met with founder and CEO Scott Ehrlich when he visited London yesterday, as part of a busy schedule which has included South America, Asia and continental Europe; evidence of the rapid growth and reach of the company.

With the new app, subscription service providers can deliver QYou’s linear and VoD content, selected from the most popular videos online, through an interactive, multiscreen experience.

According to QYou, 60 per cent of people in Europe, America and Latin America watch short videos on their mobile every day, and its new app provides a single gateway through which users can access a curated stream of ad-free content. This ‘Global Content Library’ Ehrlich explained, is organised by theme: comedy, action, music, inspiring, sport, and mind blowing.

The app is available as an authenticated standalone QYou-branded app or integrated into an operator’s existing mobile app. Using the new service, subscription platforms can offer curated short form videos as an integrated VoD and linear experience. Subscribers can skip forward and back during ‘live’ linear content, favourite content, and share through social media, as well as search using hashtags, artist and genre to find similar videos and build playlists. The app is designed to deliver better, more personalised in-app recommendations through a combination of analytics and human curation.

“In an increasingly connected, TV Everywhere world, premium platforms need tools that will help them create and enhance the subscriber value proposition,” said Ehrlich. “Our app delivers this for mobile users by balancing active, passive, and personal viewing modes to create a more customised experience that can be adapted according to a user’s mood, location or inspiration. What sets it apart though is the app’s capability to allow viewers to not only rewind but also skip forward during a linear program so they can move freely around the content as they wish. To the best of our knowledge the QYou on mobile is the first linear video channel in the world to offer viewers this level of flexibility.”

Ehrlich continued: “This is an exciting milestone for the QYou as we expand our support for subscription platforms of all kinds; enabling our customers to deliver a multiscreen video experience that celebrates the best of this golden age of short form video.”

The QYou launched with a commercial-free international linear channel a year ago and is now in over 30 countries across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Carriers include Deutsche Telekom, Telenor, M7 Group, Lattelecom, Star Times, Eesti Telekom and My HD.
