Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian was pirated within three hours of the platform’s launch, according to Comparitech and confirming concerns expressed by TVBEurope.
With the platform unavailable in Western Europe until the end of March 2020, the first episode of the new Star Wars series was available on torrent websites on the morning of the US launch.
Most of the instances of torrenting The Mandalorian originate from Spain and the UK, although searches have also come from the US and Canada where Disney Plus is available.
“Many young Star Wars fans who have never torrented before may be among the newest converts to filesharing as they search for copyright-infringing versions of content inaccessible in their own regions,” noted Comparitech.
