TF1 launches legal proceedings against Molotov

Row over distribution agreement

French broadcaster TF1 has started legal proceedings against streaming service Molotov, which it says is illegally distributing its channels.

It follows a row between the pair over TF1’s decision to end its distribution agreement and pull its channels from the OTT platform on 1st July. Molotov reacted by reinstating the channels and began legal action of its own against TF1 over the wrongful termination of the contract.

The broadcaster is demanding €8 million in damages from Molotov for refusing to cease distribution. It said it had made the decision to terminate the contract because it was an “experimental agreement.”

TF1 has denied suggestions plans for its forthcoming SVoD Salto are having any influence on the dispute with Molotov.
