Stand-up comedy platform acquires investment, distribution agreement

NextUp, the stand up comedy online video platform, has secured an additional £230,000 in funding as well as its first distribution agreement with Virgin Atlantic.

The platform launched in November 2016 and has so far filmed 28 original shows, and released a new special every week. The company has garnered a five-star average rating in both Android and Apple App stores.

Technologies SAS and Matthew Emerson have both further invested in the platform during the 2nd round, and NextUp has also brought venture capitalist firm Velocity on board – Velocity’s creative director, Bil Bungay (founder of advertising agency), will take a seat at the NextUp Board.

NextUp has also signed its first major distribution arrangement with Virgin Atlantic which will see its original programming featured on as part of the airline’s inflight entertainment.

The site is working on expanding its catalogue of original content having filmed six new specials in the last month, including Hal Cruttenden’s Straight Outta Cruttenden, which it recently filmed at the Leicester Square Theatre in London.
