Portugal’s SportTV to kick off 4K broadcasts

First broadcast will take place this weekend

Portuguese pay-TV network SportTV will begin broadcasting football matches in 4K from this weekend.

The first game to be made available will be the match between Sporting CP and FC Porto on Sunday.

Subscribers to the Sport TV Premium package will be able to access Sport TV 4K – UHD TV on cable TV operators NOS, MEO (Portugal Telecom) and Vodafone Portugal. The channel will be free of charge until the end of the year.

Sport TV had been working on the 4K channel for over a year and has previously conducted several test broadcasts, including live coverage of the UEFA Champions League in 4K.

Sport TV CEO, Nuno Ferreira Pires, said 70 per cent of Sport TV’s customers have signed up for HD content. He added that he expects cable operator Nowo to add Sport TV 4K – UHD TV in the near future.
