New Debitel-powered SVoD service for Germany’s Splendid Films

freenet Video will be based on Splendid's in-house mein VoD platform

Splendid Films, the German independent producer/distributor, has signed a five-year agreement with telecommunications group Freenet AG to launch a new SVoD service on Freenet’s mobile carrier unit Debitel.

The freenet Video service will be based on Splendid’s in-house SVoD platform “mein VoD.”

As part of the contract, Splendid is providing more than 1,000 films and series from various genres for the SVoD platform. In addition, customers can access more than 8,000 films and series in high-resolution quality for rent or purchase. Splendid subsidiary Videociety takes over the operational support for freenet Video.

Freenet Video went live Tuesday on the company’s web site and will role out across Debitel’s German stores on the 22nd May.

A freenet Video subscription will cost €4.99 per month, compared to €7.99 per month for a Netflix subscription in Germany. The freenet offering also allows subscribers to stream video on up to five devices.

Andreas R. Klein, CEO of Splendid, said: “With this cooperation, we see the outstanding quality of the development and services of our subsidiary Videocity and our mein VoD platform as well as the quality of our Splendid Film Library confirmed. We look forward to working together.”
