Netflix has introduced smart downloads to its iOS app, so as soon as the user has finished watching one downloaded episode, the next episode will be downloaded automatically.
In addition, downloaded episodes will be automatically deleted after viewing.
The streaming service introduced downloads for offline viewing in late 2016. The smart downloads feature has been available on the Android app since July 2018.
Netflix has also invested in video quality optimisation for bandwidth savings. For instance, action scenes are encoded at higher bit rates than stiller sequences.
“The faster our members can get to the next episode of their favourite stories, the better,” said Netflix. “Now, fans on the Netflix iOS app can get in on the fun and convenience of smart downloads, spending less time managing their downloads and more time watching.”
