Netflix predicted to win the streaming wars during coronavirus lockdown

Predicted to add 10 million subscribers worldwide during Q1 2020

As millions of people around the world turn to streaming services to keep them entertained during the coronavirus lockdown, one leading analyst believes Netflix will be the main beneficiary.

According to Michael Nathanson from MoffettNathanson, the company with “an incredibly cheap price point, a gargantuan library of new and original content to satisfy most demand and broad distribution,” will win the streaming wars during the lockdown. And he believes that company is Netflix.

Nathanson predicts Netflix will add 1.75 million US subscribers and 8.46 million international subscribers during the first quarter of 2020.

“Overall US streaming penetration accelerated significantly in Q1 tied to the self-quarantine and stay-at-home orders across the country,” the MoffettNathanson report said.

“Disney Plus and Apple TV Plus are still not inflicting any damage on the streaming market hegemony. Rather, they are growing the overall pie, at least in the initial phase of this COVID-19 environment.”

Netflix is due to announce its Q1 2020 results on 21st April.
