Netflix adds HDR video streaming to Galaxy Note 8

Four phones now support Netflix in HDR

Netflix is now available in high dynamic range for those watching on the new Galaxy Note 8 phone.

The Galaxy Note 8 launches on September 15th and is the fourth phone to support Netflix in HDR. The others are LG V30, Sony Xperia XZ Premium and Sony Xperia XZ1.

HDR offers better contrast ratios and colour accuracy for video. There are now five major HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, and a format Samsung has been working with Amazon called HDR10+. Samsung started supporting HDR content on devices last year, and currently the Note 7, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and the Note 8 all have HDR-capable displays.

Users need to ensure they have the latest version of the Netflix app and their phone’s firmwear to be able to watch in HDR.
