IBM Watson heads to the Grammys

First time AI employed to streamline operations and production behind the event's red carpet

IBM has signed a deal with the Recording Academy to become the official AI partner of Sunday’s Grammy Awards.

IBM Watson will be employed in the show’s digital workflow to streamline the operations and production behind the Grammys red carpet. Through the partnership, the production and curation of Grammys content “should flow more efficiently” across TV, social media, and digital platforms and generate “more engaging fan features”.

It will allow fans to browse a fashion analysis dashboard, where individual photos can be analysed for colour dominance and look, to create a gallery of similar styles from this year and prior Grammy events.

IBM Watson will also be used to analyse audio cues to generate insights on the emotional tone (Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear) of the lyrics of each nominated song.
