Viewers in the UK will now be able to sign in to the BBC’s iPlayer on connected TVs in order to resume watching an episode or series started on another device.
The change is initially available to viewers watching on YouView but will be rolled out to set-top boxes, streaming media devices and games consoles over the coming weeks and months.
Viewers will be asked to ‘pin and pair’ in order to move from their device to their TV.
Dan Taylor-Watt, head of BBC iPlayer, said: “Enabling sign-in on connected TVs and the rollout of new personalised features builds on the BBC’s strategy to make BBC iPlayer more personal across screens – letting you discover and enjoy programmes that are more relevant to you on the devices you use, whenever and wherever you use them.”
Along with the new development, the BBC announced iPlayer had another record-breaking month in January.
There were 304 million requests in January, the highest ever seen by the BBC.
January was up eight per cent on December, BBC iPlayer’s previous best ever month, and saw over 50 million requests more than the same month last year.
