Netflix experiments with mobile phone ‘rumbling’

Feature makes a viewer's phone vibrate in sync with the action on the screen.

As part of its annual Hack Day, two engineers at Netflix have tried adding a rumble pack option to the streamer’s mobile phone app.

It means that when a viewer is watching a show with a lot of action (eg an earthquake or explosion), the feature makes their phone vibrate in sync with the action on the screen.

Unfortunately, Hack Day projects aren’t developed in order to become part of the company’s apps, and are instead meant as a way to build community within the company, which means consumers aren’t likely to ever experience the feel of the rumble pack.
