ITV4 to broadcast Grand National Race of Champions

Will feature 40 horses from previous races, created using CGI 3D technology and software

In a UK TV first, ITV4 is to broadcast the Grand National Race of Champions on the 13th of April.

The race will feature 40 horses from previous races, including Red Rum, and is being created digitally using CGI 3D technology and software by Inspired Entertainment.

ITV4 will broadcast the race for the first time alongside a Virtual Grand National 2018, which will create this year’s race hours before the horses take to the track at Aintree.

Both the Virtual Grand National and Grand National Race of Champions will form part of an hour long special previewing the 171st running of the Grand National.

“We used the latest technology and filming techniques to capture the iconic Aintree course in order to deliver the most authentic looking race possible,” said Steve Rogers, chief commercial officer, Digital Games, Inspired Entertainment.

“The reaction to the 2017 Virtual Grand National was fantastic and we’re delighted to be bringing the Race of Champions, in addition to the 2018 Virtual Grand National predictor race, to screens this year,” he added.

The programme has been developed by Virtual Sports products company Inspired Entertainment, in association with Carm Productions.
