AWS moves live video workflow into the cloud

New cloud-based service MediaConnect is aimed at the live video market

Amazon Web Services has announced the launch of a new cloud-based service for the contribution, distribution and secure sharing of live video.

AWS Elemental MediaConnect is a “console”-based workflow service that allows broadcasters of live content to ingest their video into the cloud, securely transmitting it to distribution parters, or replicating it to multiple destinations.

Users can employ AWS Elemental MediaConnect to ingest live video from a remote event site, such as a stadium; share video with a partner, like a cable TV distributor; or replicate a live video stream for processing, such as an over-the-top video service.

AWS says transport workflows built with MediaConnect can be reconfigured on demand and easily integrated into other AWS services for monitoring and distribution.

The company said the service’s client list already includes ITV, Arqiva and Discovery.

“AWS has given Arqiva the ability to test quickly, only pay for what was used, and produce reliable, high-quality, secured managed services for our clients in a matter of weeks,” said Alex Pannell, managing director of Satellite & Media for Arqiva.

“The new AWS Elemental MediaConnect service will allow us to be much more responsive in the acquisition and distribution of live and linear video channels, with significantly more flexibility, while expanding our reach globally using the scale of the AWS Cloud.”
