RTP, TVI, RTP Madeira and Porto Canal utilised graphics solutions from wTVision during their coverage of the recent Portuguese election. The projects continue a long association with election night broadcasts for wTVision, which has provided graphics for more than 50 such programmes.

As a result of the technology supplies by wTVision, RTP, TVI, RTP Madeira and Porto Canal presented their special election programmes with a wide range of interactive graphics in full screen, tickers, augmented reality functionality and virtual graphics. There was also integration with social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

Features of the RTP deployment included the use of iPads by journalists to control the flow and order of the presentation. The broadcaster also gave its viewers an iPad application, created by wTVision, that provided real-time election results.

In what is believed to be a first for Portugal, TVI deployed a HITUI (Human Interaction Technology and User Interface) on virtual scenery, controlling a virtual parliament via an iPad. The result for viewers was an historic perspective on politics in Portugal, encompassing election results since 1975 as well as 2011 ballot projections and results.

All of the projects employed wTVision’s Elections CG product as the software platform.
