Twickenham Studios to open new Liverpool facility

New filming complex will be based at Liverpool's Littlewoods Building

Twickenham Studios has announced plans to open a new £50 million northern base at the Littlewoods Building in Liverpool.

It was announced in April of last year that the building was to be turned into a new film and studio hub.

Twickenham Studios has signed a deal with developer Capital & Centric to build two new sound stages next to the building as well as workshops, wardrobe and prop storage areas which will be housed in the main building.

Maria Walker, chief operating officer of Twickenham Studios, said: “This is a major milestone in our history. When we saw the vision for Littlewoods, we knew we had to be a part of what will be an incredibly special place.

“Liverpool’s architecture, accessibility and can-do attitude sees film-makers return to the city time and time again. With the added benefit of our studios, they’ll have access to gold-standard interior facilities right on the doorstep of unique exterior locations.

“It will be great to see Liverpool become an international focal point for TV and film.”

It’s thought the new facility could open in 2020, subject to planning permission.
