TVB Hong Kong adopts Tektronix monitoring

Tektronix has landed a significant order from Hong Kong’s Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), one of the largest producers of Chinese language TV programming in the world. TVB has adopted Tektronix WFM7100 waveform monitors and the WFM7120 field upgrade kit to achieve the latest video distribution, broadcast monitoring and measurement capabilities, writes Fergal Ringrose.

The TV broadcasting industry is challenged to manage more complex and rapidly changing technologies during the transition from legacy analogue systems to emerging digital video systems. Many TV broadcasters including TVB are looking for highly-capable, cost-effective, easy-to-use waveform monitoring solutions that have the monitoring and measurement capabilities they currently need and can later upgrade the instruments to meet new requirements.

“We believe the deployment of Tektronix WFM7100 Series waveform monitors will enable TVB to establish and maintain a more robust system to distribute and broadcast high quality digital TV programmes to our audience,” said Bruce Kruger TVB’s Controller of Engineering.

Supporting HD, SD and composite video formats and combining video and audio monitoring capabilities, the Tektronix WFM7120 series waveform monitor enable users to quickly and accurately characterise video equipment and systems, resolve video and audio content faults, data protocol errors and timing problems.

With FlexVu display capability, the monitors also enable a flexible combination of waveform and vector displays with full-quadrant picture and audio displays, as well as the display combinations that are not available on other waveform monitors.

“We are very pleased that TVB has adopted the Tektronix WFM Series waveform monitors for their broadcast platform,” said James Alderton, Marketing Director, Tektronix Asia Pacific Region. “This advanced solution from Tektronix will enable them to maintain their analogue systems while taking full advantage of new digital technologies.”
