Post boutique The Look has finished a 70-minute, seven-screen projection project comprised of five films shot at 5K.

Playtime was created by video artist Isaac Julien and has been installed at London’s Victoria Miro Gallery (until 1 March) before being showcased around the world.

The five films were shot on Red Epic cameras and totalled 30TB of media. Colourist and The Look founder Thomas Urbye graded from the raw Red files on SGO Mistika, initially grading each screen, and then combining all seven into the system’s grouping mode for client review on the facility’s 4m projection screen.

Finishing was by Jason Wallis and editing by Adam Finch. Visual effects were completed by Lexhag and imported into Mistika to maximise dynamic range.

“This was one of the largest projects we have ever worked on,” Urbye said. “70 minutes of 5K is daunting enough, but multiply it by seven and you have a truly epic project. Great care has been taken to make the images seen in these films as breathtaking and moving as possible.”

The films were shot in London, Dubai and Iceland, and feature James Franco, Maggie Cheung and Mercedes Cabral. A shorter single-screen version of the work was shown at New York’s Time Square in December and at Metro Pictures Gallery.
