Teracom Denmark selects Nevion T-VIPS solutions for DVB-T2 network

Danish media operator Teracom Denmark has deployed Nevion solutions to upgrade the Danish DTT network to the new DVB-T2 standard.

Danish media operator Teracom Denmark has deployed Nevion solutions to upgrade the Danish DTT network to the new DVB-T2 standard. Having recently merged with DTT solutions provider T-VIPS, Nevion supplied Teracom Denmark with the CP560 DVB-T2 Gateway, the TNS541 Seamless TS Monitoring Switch and the TNS546 TS Monitor, all controlled by the Connect remote management and monitoring solution. DVB-T2 allows Teracom Denmark to take advantage of more efficient spectrum use, with a 30-50% gain in efficiency compared to traditional DVB-T networks. The CP560 DVB-T2 Gateway is an essential part of the DVB-T2 network infrastructure, enabling the delivery of HD television in a terrestrial network. In addition to generating single-frequency network (SFN) time stamping and providing rate control, the CP560 DVB-T2 Gateway sets the modulator parameters and converts the traditional transport stream to the T2MI interface, feeding the DTT modulator in a highly efficient way. “We had a very short timeframe to deliver this project but it was made possible by the outstanding efficiency and expertise of Nevion’s T-VIPS heritage,” said Karsten Madsen, project manager at Teracom Denmark. “The existing DVB-T network in Denmark includes a redundant distribution infrastructure, so it was absolutely crucial that we could integrate solutions into the network which wouldn’t compromise reliability and redundancy. Nevion’s solutions gave us exactly what we were looking for – easy set-up, flexibility and crucially, the assurance of high-quality video delivery to Denmark’s terrestrial viewers.” Loss of SFN Sync in DTT networks can cause severe outages and has a major impact on the quality of the viewing experience and SLAs. Robust SFN operation has been ensured in the Danish DVB-T2 system by deploying the TNS541 Seamless TS Monitoring Switch. Denmark’s DVB-T2 network benefits from this both at its playout facilities and at all transmitter sites. The TNS546 TS Monitor currently provides both TS and T2MI monitoring capabilities in the central headends of the network, enabling fast error detection and diagnostics for SLA reporting and preventative maintenance of the system. In addition, Teracom Denmark has selected the Connect solution to manage and control the DVB-T2 system. Connect features equipment inventory management and a user-friendly operator interface, ensuring smooth, reliable operation of the entire system.www.nevion.com
