TeleZüri, Switzerland’s leading independent regional broadcaster, has moved to a file-based workflow for its playout and news production. Sports broadcaster Schweizer Sportfernsehen, based in TeleZüri’s Zurich headquarters, has made the same move, putting an additional load on the server network with its need for raid editing. The infrastructure uses server technology from DVS, with a central SAN and six Venice video servers providing a total of 22 channels covering ingest, news playout and transmission playout. The broadcaster deals with a number of broadcast formats including DVCPro, AVC-Intra, Avid DNxHD and Sony XDCam EX. The DVS server network handles all formats natively, scaling them in real time. The central SAN is designed with redundancy and failover built in for high reliability.According to Peter Canale, head of business and technology at TeleZüri, “the six DVS Venice systems will bring considerable time savings, allowing us to respond more quickly and flexibly in our current broadcast operations.”
