SVT signs DV deal

Stockholm-based broadcaster SVT has purchased a Nucoda Film Master datacentric grading, conforming, compositing, and effects system from Digital Vision to support its longform television production activities.

Stockholm-based broadcaster SVT has purchased a Nucoda Film Master datacentric grading, conforming, compositing, and effects system from Digital Vision to support its longform television production activities.

SVT needed an HD-capable colour corrector for its Fiction and Drama departments and in particular required a system that provided fast throughput with a comprehensive toolset, good ergonomics, a workable User Interface, and excellent potential for further development and upgrade. SVT looked at all of the available systems and selected the Nucoda Film Master, which they will use in conjunction with their existing DVNR image processing systems from Digital Vision.

Fred Arne H_gberg, Senior Colourist at SVT commented on the purchase: “Due to our experience we have learned that the interaction between the operator and machine is the foundation for a good day’s work. We are convinced that the Film Master will give us new artistic tools at a higher technical level and will also be an investment for the future. We have worked with Digital Vision since its formation and they have always provided us with the support and technology that we require with a great amount of confidence.”

SVT’s colourists also commented on the Film Master’s combination of the Valhall’s ergonomic panels, the algorithms of the DVO for off-picture handling and the option of the OFX plug-in as additional reasons for its choice. In addition they liked the limited amount of specially designed hardware and use of “standard” technology so that there will be no limitations in the system and easy route to upgrade and develop. The Nucoda Film Master will be used for colour correction at the end of SVT’s workflow and in the future for the restoration of TV drama programmes.

SVT is a major European broadcaster that produces much of its own content and broadcasts to households all over Sweden. SVT currently supports five broadcast channels as well as providing broadcast feeds to cable companies and satellite broadcasting companies in the Nordic region.
