As Host Broadcast Services’ (HBS) delivery partner for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Sony has announced the companies it will be collaborating with to deliver over 2500 hours of live match footage for the duration of the event.
Sonovts, Presteigne Charter, Studio Berlin, CTV Outside Broadcast, Outside Broadcast, AMP Visual TV and Broadcast RF will work with Sony to facilitate a full HD live production workflow for all 64 matches. In addition, three matches, including the Quarter Final rounds and the Final, will be captured in 4K.
Sony is responsible for the provision of all HD venue facilities in each of the 12 venues across Brazil, including systems integration, equipment and staff. This includes managing the provision of 12 production containers and 288 Sony full HD cameras, providing the production tools for HBS to deliver footage to broadcasters.
Sony and HBS will be responsible for the 4K project in Brazil. Sony will work with Brazilian outside broadcast and programming company Globosat and UK-based Telegenic to provide the production platform. Globosat will be responsible for the provision of on-the-ground technical facilities, whilst Telegenic bring their technical experience, gained at the Confederations Cup 4K trial last year, to the project. Fujinon will be providing lenses.
“Delivering a production platform of this scale is no small feat, and we pride ourselves on working with some of the best talent and expertise in the industry,” commented Mark Grinyer, head of business development for 3D, 4K and sports at Sony. “We’re delighted to have secured such a strong roster of companies to work with us to bring the action from Brazil to fans in both HD and 4K, and we’re positive people are going to be blown away by the most visually stunning tournament ever.”
