Sony extends VENICE 2 capabilities with new lens

The RIALTO 65 has approximately 2.2x the light-receiving area of a full-frame image sensor

Sony is introducing a new 65mm format capable image sensor block for its VENICE 2 camera.

The RIALTO 65 has approximately 2.2x the light-receiving area of a full-frame image sensor, said the company, enabling cinematographers to capture both intimate detail and expansive spatial depth.

The new sensor has a diagonal size of approximately 64.60 mm (width 53.75 mm, height 35.83 mm) and a 3:2 aspect ratio. In addition to 9.6K 3:2 open gate recording, it supports recording in multiple readout modes to ensure compatibility with various 65mm format.

The new sensor block can be mounted to the VENICE 2 camera body directly or via a cable similar to the VENICE Extension System.

Sony said it is targeting the first half of 2027 to release RIALTO 65.
