SMPTE and the Commission Sup_rieure Technique de l’image et du Son (CST) have announced a Memorandum of Understanding detailing increased cooperation between the two organisations. The Memorandum covers exchange of information, fosters increased cooperation in the development of standards of mutual interest and provides for regular meetings of organisation leaders, as well as joint projects where applicable, writes Carolyn Giardina.

“The CST represents significant expertise in the crafts of digital cinema, television and motion imaging,” said SMPTE engineering VP, Gavin Schutz, who is president of Azcar Media Services. “Their expertise will not only help facilitate our ongoing international standards efforts, but will also add valuable expertise in the area of operational excellence and industry practice to the standards development process. The agreement also confirms the society’s role as a standards organisation for moving image professionals that is truly international in scope, membership and expertise.”

Added CST chair Pierre-Willam Glenn: “The CST is working for the CNC and AFNOR to develop recommendations and standards that – in today’s context – are destined to become European and international. We are very pleased with the agreement drawn up with SMPTE, which will enable us to work towards this goal and to better regulate the methods and standards used for digital recording and broadcasting, guaranteeing the quality of the projected image.”
