Saudi TV in HD upgrade with Harris

Harris Corporation has received an order spanning its high-definition product portfolio from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture and Information (MOCI), which is gradually converting all Saudi Television facilities to high definition. The order marks the third sale of Harris broadcast workflow systems to Saudi Television.

The latest win follows orders for HD projects at Saudi Television facilities in Madinah and Qassim and is intended for MOCI’s HD upgrade of its Saudi Television facility in Riyadh. The MOCI facility consists of two HD studio control rooms for the sports and news channels and a third for production, serving all Saudi TV channels in Riyadh.

Harris’ regional office in the Gulf, and its Arabic-speaking engineers, was cited as a key reason by MOCI for partnering with the company. “Harris’ approach of integrating its products along the workflow chain is critical to our new HD operation in Riyadh, providing us with interoperability and cost efficiencies for our national TV channels,” said Dr. Riyadh Najm, Deputy Minister of Engineering, MOCI.

The system comprises NEXIO video servers, Platinum routers, CENTRIO multiviewers, Inscriber G3 graphics solutions, Videotek TVM-950 multiformat HD/SD-SDI signal analysers, and a host of video/audio processing and distribution products. The sale was handled by First Gulf Company (FGC) in Saudi Arabia.
