Ross Video has introduced its new Carbonite 2 MLE switcher at NAB which features the company’s Multi-Definition Production Engine and packs high production power into a compact frame making it an affordable mid-size package. The Multi-Definition Production Engine offers the same processing used in the Vision Octane; and the Carbonite series comes with either a 16- or 24-input chassis. Carbonite 1 is a 1MLE panel with 16 direct access source buttons, full panel mnemonics and Ross ‘PanelGlow’ RGB buttons. The control surface has direct access to two full MLEs giving producers operational benefits of a multi-MLE production in the same physical space as a traditional 1MLE production switcher. Carbonite 2 has the same PanelGlow and mnemonics but with 24 direct access buttons. Carbonite’s 2RU processing engine includes two MultiViewers, 4 keyers per MLE, DVE channels, four animation stores, internal synchronisation and conversion, and full Multi-Definition operation. Carbonite 1 is priced at $22,995 (£14,065/€15,866); and Carbonite 2 at $39,995 (£24,464/€27,596). Both will be shipping in summer 2011. “These price points bring 2 MLE production capability within reach for many,” says Nigel Spratting, switcher business development manager at Ross Video. “There are applications where a Multi-MLE system is desired but is just too expensive, making the introduction of Carbonite a true game changer.”
