Ross introduces new playout server

Ross Video has introduced a new video server, aimed at production applications in file-based workflows. The BlackStorm 102P playout server is a two channel HD device, housed in a compact 1U cabinet. By using commodity IT technology – including Dell Server hardware – the price has been kept affordable at US$14,995. It provides native support of Quicktime (.mov) files with a selection of codecs. Control is by the Ross DashBoard system which allows user configuration of the client/server interface. Because it is Quicktime-native it is readily integrated into file-based workflows with popular editing and graphics systems such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier, Avid Media Composer and Adobe After Effects. BlackStorm supports production-oriented playlists with built-in transition effects, and it integrates well with Ross production switchers as well as third-party switchers and controllers. “The BlackStorm product line is the next step in the evolution of servers from Ross,” said Todd Robinson, marketing product manager for video servers at Ross Video. “This is a whole new design using next generation software architecture and the latest IT server hardware, providing a compelling product offering at a very competitive price point.”
