Riedel Communications is undertaking extensive communications responsibilities during the latest Red Bull Air Race World Championship. Now in its eighth year, the Red Bull Air Race series – TV coverage of which recently received an Emmy Award for the second time in a row – comprises a number of events in which competitors have to navigate an elaborate obstacle course in the fastest time. For the seventh year in a row, Riedel Communications is serving as the official global supplier of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship. Utilising its MediorNet technology, Riedel is responsible for all on-site communications and signal distribution for the event, integrating both HD video and audio signals as well as wireless and wired digital intercom systems.

The company is also supplying the HD cameras and RF links for the planes’ onboard cameras ,enabling stunning pictures to be delivered from the perspective of pilots including Pete Mcleod (pictured during the final round of the 2009 series). The Red Bull Air Race World Championship programme, which is broadcast in the USA on Fox Sports Network (FSN), recently won an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Technical Team Remote category, which recognises the technical achievement of sports programmes in remote venues. The programmes for FSN are produced by the American company G.R.A.C.E Productions, together with the Austrian-based production company West4Media, as well as Riedel Communications, SiVision and Sky Media. Riedel Communications’ CEO, Thomas Riedel, told TVBE: “The Red Bull Air Race is one of the most challenging event and broadcast productions with its installations which cover large distances and involve a lot of different signals that need to be routed within the event location. Being recognized as a team with such a prestigious award for the second time makes us really proud.” Image Credit: David Blundell/Red Bull Air Race via AP Images. www.riedel.net
