Quantel’s Genetic Engineering technology has been named winner of the 2007 Hollywood Post Alliance (HPA) Engineering Excellence Award. At the ceremony held at Technicolor in LA the judges recognised the Genetic Engineering as a ‘genre-changing product,’ writes Andy Stout.

The Engineering Excellence Award was created to showcase and reward inventors, manufacturers, vendors and companies for outstanding product or technology application offerings. Entries were required to enable a significant step forward for the post production industry.

“We are honoured that the HPA is recognising this work which helps solve some of the challenging teamworking issues that many of our customers face,” said Mark Horton, Quantel Strategic Marketing manager. “Part of the uniqueness of Genetic Engineering is that as well as offering Quantel teamworking, it is completely open to third party systems, with no license or special APIs. This makes it a genuinely open and new approach to workflow, all the way to 4K and Stereoscopic 3D. We are delighted that the HPA has recognised it in this manner.”

Phil Mendelson, Chair of the Engineering Awards subcommittee of the HPA Awards Committee, said, “In a field of compelling entries, Quantel’s Genetic Engineering blew us out of our seats with an infrastructure that does indeed change the way we travel through the digital intermediate workflow. The HPA Engineering Excellence Awards were created to honour genre changing processes and products and Genetic Engineering does just that.”
