Quantel powers Romanian news

RCS & RDS, the leading provider of television, internet and telephony in Romania, is installing Quantel Enterprise sQ production systems as its news operation moves to HD

RCS & RDS, the leading provider of television, internet and telephony in Romania, is installing Quantel Enterprise sQ production systems as its news operation moves to HD. The system serves both national and regional news broadcasts.

The central system in the Bucharest headquarters has an online HD capacity of 850 hours. It supports 35 journalist editing workstations, plus eight Final Cut Pro seats and two of Quantel’s new GPU-powered Qube craft editors. The three regional stations across the country have smaller versions of the national system, with five desktop editors, a craft editor and ingest and playout functionality, sharing content with Bucharest using Quantel QTube communications technology.

The Quantel production system is integrated with an ENPS newsroom system. Video content can be viewed from any workstation using the Quantel sQ View ActiveX pop-up, which means any journalist or editor can perform simple shot selection and edits within the ENPS user interface.

Asset management uses Quantel Mission software. This takes care of scheduled recordings, import of files from other news agencies, and the export of finished content to websites and partner services. Mission will also be integrated with a large data archive allowing journalists to find historical media to enrich their stories.

“Quantel was the obvious choice,” said Alexandru Oprea, CEO of RCS & RDS. “They can meet our demanding roll-out plan, and QTube opens up highly productive and creative workflow possibilities for us. It means we can produce more informed and engaging news for our viewers.”
