Socater (Sociedad Canaria de Television Regional, SA) has purchased two Quantel Newsbox systems for its news and sports production centres in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The two Newsbox systems will support all regional production activities, enabling journalists to simultaneously browse, select and edit video direct from desktops via Quantel’s sQ Cut applications.

Craft editing is also supported via sophisticated sQ Edit workstations. Quantel claims that Newsbox offers the fastest flight time from ingest to air of any system in the world – a key factor in Socater’s selection of the system.

While the two systems will initially operate independently of each other, Socater expects to implement remote media sharing and production between them by installing Quantel’s revolutionary ZoneMagic technology in the medium term. ZoneMagic enables seamless media sharing between Quantel systems in a totally safe, flexible and network-efficient manner, bringing potentially massive operational and commercial benefits to broadcasters.

“We are delighted to have closed this deal with Socater and we’re convinced that this is the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between our two organisations,” said Rafael Zapardiel, senior sales manager, Quantel Spain. “Socater has joined a rapidly growing club of broadcasters that benefit from Newsbox’s optimal workflow and incredibly short time-to-air.”
